How to remove sink drain quickly

People often face sink draining problems and there are many of them don’t know how to remove the sink drain. Well, it’s an easy task and you can do it by yourself. This DIY article on how to remove sink drain will walk you through to solve your problems.

Kitchen sink drain

Under the kitchen sink, if you hear a water dripping sound while your sink is full of dirty utensils and water, it indicates you might have a sink strainer or leaky sink drain. In this case, you need to remove your kitchen sink drain as soon as possible.

Removing Kitchen sink drain

Apply the steps below for removing your kitchen sink strainer.

  1. Turn off the water supply: At first, turn off the water supply by simply shutting off the valves in the sink.
  2. Lose the Drainpipes: You will find a connector ring under the kitchen sink that holds together the tailpiece and the P-trap from the kitchen sink drain. Set a wrench on the connector and start loosening it anticlockwise until you loosened a tight grip of it. Now you can separate it quickly from the tailpiece by using your bare hands.
  3. Disengage the tailpiece: Some of the tailpieces poses threads locking with threads on the strainer of the sink. You can remove it by simply turning it anticlockwise to unscrew the tailpiece from the bottom of the sink strainer.
  4. Remove the locknut: Under the kitchen sink a locknut is placed and it’s mainly used for securing the kitchen sink strainer tightly. Your kitchen sink leaks when this locknut is not tight enough. So, you can remove the locknut from the sink drain easily.
  5. Use the Penetrating oil: The locknut is made of metal and it’s most likely has a chance of getting rusty in the kitchen sink humid environment. While loosening if you find a rusty locknut on step 3 then use a suitable amount of penetrating oil on that to weaken it. Before putting a wrench on it give the oil enough time to drip into the locknut. Apply this a night before starting the project.
  6. Pull out the basket strainer: After removing the locknut also the rubber washer sealing from the drain hole and friction protection, then you can pull out this strainer. Now, under the sink give a little push to it for breaking the basket strainer from the plumber’s putty. Apply a reasonable amount of force to avoid any accident. Bathroom sink drain

Many people often face sink-clogging problems in their bathrooms. Day by day the draining system will become slower. If you are facing this problem remove your bathroom sink drain.

Removing Bathroom sink drain

Don’t worry you can do it by yourself just follow the steps below.

  • Turn off all the valves
  • From the bathroom, sink tailpiece remove the P-trap. It’s a vertical length pipe that is downward- extending from the drain. Now let out the P-trap compression nut with pliers or by hands. Then pull it down and move the P-trap away far from the tailpiece.
  • To the end of the arm, slide the U-shaped spring to disengage the pop-up stopper lever and remove it. Now slide down the adjustment plate which is connected with the lift rode.
  • Afterward, by pliers unscrew the nut and hold the lever arm to the tailpiece. Remove the nut and pull the lever out.
  • Again with pliers grip the large nut and turn it counterclockwise for loosening it. Hook a screwdriver in the drain in case the drain turns while turning the nut.
  • Pull out the nut also press on the bottom part of the tailpiece up with the help of a hammer for removing the drain apart from the sink. Meanwhile, the time drain is loosened, pull the drain out up above the sink.
