The best way to clean paint off glass windows

clean paint off glass windows

Home DIYs inspire homeowners to do a lot of home improvement projects on their own. But, mistakes can occur, for instance, splashing your windows with unwanted paint in the course of your DIY wall painting. Even with careful planning and preparation, a paint project can still go awry, especially if you are doing it for the first time. Whether it was an accidental paint splatter or minor paint marks on your windows, you don’t have to worry about anything. It is easy to remove them and restore your glass windows to their initial sheen. All you have to do is look for professional window cleaners or follow this step-by-step process to clean paint off your glass window.

Boil some white vinegar

You need a small measuring cup to measure a cup of white vinegar. Put it in a saucepan and bring it to boil in the microwave or stove. Then, wear a pair of heavy-duty gloves to protect your hands when working on the windows. Using repeated processes, dip a rag into the boiled vinegar and use it to run the paint off the window. What happens is, the heated vinegar will loosen the paint, and it will start coming off as you continue rubbing the window. Although some paint may remain on the window, this next step will do the trick.

Scrub off the extra pain using a sharp razor blade

If there are paint marks still left, it’s time to go the extra mile. Mix warm water and soap detergent in a bucket of water. Then dip another rag into the water and use it to wipe the window. The warm water softens the paint on the glass, and the detergent acts as a lubricant so that you don’t scratch the window as you work on it.

Position your sharp razor blade at 45degrees from the window and start scratching the paint off the window. Please pay attention to the angle you hold your razor blade to avoid scratching the glass or, worse, breaking it. With repeated motions, push the blade in smooth strokes to remove the paint. Only use one-direction strokes but not back and forth scratches. Have your damp cloth nearby to dampen the window or paint spots every time they seem to dry off.

Use a glass cleaner to clean the window.

After scraping off the paint, it is time to clean your window. Put some glass cleaner in a sprayer and spray on the window paying attention to where the paint marks were. Use a dry cloth to wipe your window clean. Ensure you buff out any streaks with fiber cloth to achieve a streak-free finish.

Additional tips

Note that paint can be very stubborn to remove from your glass window unless you use the proper technique. Again, you risk scratching your glass window, so you should be very meticulous when scraping off the paint. Ensure the surface of the window is wet and while scratching off the paint. The key thing here is to remove the paint without scratching the glass. If you can’t seem to get it right, it is best to hire professional window cleaners who know the best techniques to deal with stubborn paint on windows.

Conclusion

You don’t have to live with paint-stained windows just because you don’t know how to remove them. You can consult with a professional window cleaner and find out how to clean stubborn paint off your windows.
