Choose These Houseplants for Your Kitchen

James Barnes September 24, 2025 Renovation Leave a Comment

Adding plants to your kitchen is about more than looks. They bring nature indoors and make the space feel calm and welcoming, but they also offer real health benefits. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, and many varieties even clean the air of harmful substances.

Why Choose Houseplants for Your Kitchen?

Research shows how powerful this can be. A famous NASA study found that certain houseplants can remove toxins from a closed room in just 24 hours. That makes them especially useful in kitchens, where cooking smells and changing air quality are common.

Best for Cleaner Air – Boston Fern

The Boston fern, also known as the sword fern, is a classic choice. Its soft green fronds reduce humidity and filter toxins from the air. It looks striking in a pot and needs only light trimming. Place it in a bright room, but keep it away from direct sun. If you need a kitchen refurb, there are firms that offer design and installation.

Easiest to Care For – Snake Plant

The snake plant is ideal if you want low maintenance because it survives with little water, tolerates low light and also brings a modern touch while helping clean the air. Plants are also great if you’re planning a kitchen refurb.

Best for a Splash of Colour – Pink Begonia

For something cheerful, a pink begonia adds instant colour. With blooms ranging from soft to bright pink, it can brighten neutral kitchens. It grows well in a window that catches morning sun and afternoon shade.
