How to remove wallpaper border

Sometimes a decoration change is necessary, but removing the edges of the wallpaper can be a tricky job, especially if the adhesive is still strong. However, if you follow these steps, you can make it easier and end up with a great finished product.

Step 1: Try the hair dryer trick

Before applying water or other moisture to the wallpaper and border, gently heat the area with a hair dryer. This can loosen the adhesive. Step 2 – Mist and scrape

Fill a small spray bottle with warm water. Some DIY enthusiasts swear by a vinegar solution, but this isn’t recommended because it makes the room you’re decorating smell unpleasant for days afterward, especially if you’re removing an edge from a wallpaper background that you want to keep. Commercial wallpaper remover sprays are available, but if you’re on a budget, warm water will work just as well.

Once you’ve sprayed the edge, scraping gently but firmly with a plastic scraper. Metal scrapers should be avoided because they can damage the wall surface underneath; If the underlying wall surface is damaged, you will need to chip, sand, and paint the area before you can proceed with the new wall décor.

Step 3 – Sponge with warm water

If you’ve followed the steps above and still see a well-bonded edge, consider applying more moisture to the area. Fill a bucket with warm, soapy water and sponge gently over your work area.

Step 5 – Clean the surface

When you have finished removing the edge of the wallpaper, clean the surface and check that the wall has no traces of adhesive; Any new paper or paint you apply can be marred by whatever is left behind. The wall should be left bare overnight to allow the surface to dry before applying something new.
