When you think of a small outdoor space, the first thing that comes to mind is probably a balcony. You might think that having a little balcony on the first floor of your home would be small and confined, but in reality, having a balcony on the first floor is probably one of the most beautiful and perfect places to sit and relax.  We all know that the first floor is the best location for a balcony, and having one on the first floor of your home is even better. It means that the balcony overlooks your private little oasis. Your view might not be of the ocean or a lake, but small balconies are all the same- they give you and your guests a perfect view of the outdoors. To make the most of your small balcony, you should consider decorating it in a way that makes it as pretty and pretty as possible. Here are some ideas on how to decorate a small balcony with style and charm.

Decorate the walls with art and bright colors

Art is a great way to brighten up a small balcony. Not only should you have some art on the walls- but you should also have color. You can go with neutral or bright colors, or go full-on bold with an art piece. You can find tons of beautiful, inexpensive pieces at local stores that you can add to your home décor for a pretty and affordable addition.  If you are looking for a way to make your balcony look more like an extension of your living room, try to go with a bolder color scheme. If you don’t like bright colors- don’t worry. There are lots of neutral wall colors you can use instead.

Add a small sculpture

If you have a tiny balcony, you might not be able to fit a full-size sculpture on it. But that shouldn’t stop you from trying. The only thing that might fit on your balcony is a small table, table lamp, or sculpture. If you are brave enough to attempt a tiny table sculpture, you can find some cheap and charming alternatives online. If you go with a table sculpture, be sure to get one that is lightweight so that it doesn’t intrude on the space too much. This would be a good idea for any small balcony. You can also try to use an item that is larger but easier to move around. For example, old wooden chairs can be used as table chairs, but you can also use them as little sitting areas when you have little ones visiting.

Have a stool or two

Stools are another great way to create a small seating area on a balcony. You can find a lot of them at garage sales and local estate sales. They usually have good wood and metal legs and are usually pretty cheap. You can find a lot of different styles and designs, both modern and classic, at local stores. There are a lot of different sizes and styles, so make sure to choose one that is right for the space. If you are looking for a more decorative way to add seating on your balcony, try to go with stools. They are often seen as sooterri-kits, but they can be used as standard chairs when you have limited space. If you are not a fan of stools, you can also try to use the shelves in your kitchen or bathroom as a seating option.

Upcycle an item that you already have

There are lots of ways to use old items in your house to create extra seating on your balcony. For example, the little plastic chairs that you got for Christmas can be used as table chairs. You can also use the little plastic tables that you grew up using. They are often very cheap, so you can often find them at garage sales and estate sales for very little money. You can also use items from your kitchen, like the little cups or decanters that you no longer use. This is a great way to use up some of your old kitchen storage space.

Don’t forget about the plant

Plants are a great addition to small balconies. They not only look good, but they also add a lot of atmosphere to the space. If you don’t have a lot of space, it is a good idea to have a small balcony plant. This will give you a place to sit and relax, even if you don’t have a lot of space for additional seating. There are many different types of plant options, so do your research and find the perfect plant for your balcony. There are plenty of beautiful flowering plants that will do well in your area, and you can add some color and fragrance to your air with a small bouquet of flowers.

Add games for kids

If you have kids or kids on the way, a games area is a must. You should try to add some games to your small balcony. Here are a few ideas.

  • Play a board game that can be played in various areas of the balcony.
  • You can use a different-sized outdoor dartboard to make a variety of games that are suitable for small balconies.
  • Find an outdoor game that can be played in the weather and is easy to set up and take down.
  • Try out different games that your kids and your family can play together, and make sure they are age-appropriate.
  • You can also buy some board games at the store and bring them to your balcony for kids to play.
  • If you are looking for a little more activity, try to find a way to connect your balcony to the outdoors. For example, you can plant some trees and plant baskets under the trees for kid-friendly seating.
  • You can also use your small balcony for hosting events such as family gatherings and birthday parties. Hold sit-down dinners on the balcony and make some fun music that the kids will love to dance to.

Conclusion

The small balcony might not be your first choice when thinking of outdoor space, but in reality, it is one of the roomiest and most versatile areas in your house. You can add a little charm and class to your home with these tips on how to decorate a small balcony with style and charm.
