Six Things to See and Do in Chester

James Barnes May 25, 2025 Tourism Leave a Comment

Chester is one of those cities that people can very easily fall in love with. It’s packed with character, charm, and centuries of stories, and it’s the kind of place that makes you want to wander without a map. Whether you’re here for the architecture, the food, the riverside views or just a relaxing weekend break, there’s no shortage of things to do. And if you’re staying somewhere like a Chester luxury hotel, you’ll have the perfect base for it all as well. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.

Walk the City Walls

These aren’t just any city walls. Chester’s walls are the most complete in Britain, wrapping right around the city, and a stroll along the top gives you a surprisingly peaceful break from the streets below – and some excellent photo opportunities too.

Shop the Chester Rows

This is shopping with a twist… The Rows are a mix of timbered buildings and raised walkways filled with boutiques and independent shops, and you’ll find everything from handmade jewellery to the perfect cup of coffee tucked away here.

Visit the Cathedral

Even if churches aren’t usually your thing, Chester Cathedral might win you over. It’s beautiful inside, with high vaulted ceilings, peaceful gardens, and quiet corners where time seems to slow down.

Step Back into Roman Times

Chester’s amphitheatre is a brilliant reminder of just how far the city’s history stretches; it’s the largest of its kind in Britain and makes you feel like you’ve wandered onto a film set.

Stay Somewhere that Makes it Special

There’s something lovely about returning to a hotel that feels like part of the trip itself. A Chester luxury hotel usually means plush rooms, thoughtful service, and maybe even a spa to sink into after a day on your feet.

Chester blends the ancient with the relaxed in a way that few places do. You won’t run out of things to see – you’ll just wish you had more time. And of course, that means you’ll need to come back!
