Why Do You Need to Improve the Indoor Air Quality of Your House?

Sylvia James February 04, 2022 Renovation Leave a Comment

Many people have heard of indoor air pollution, but they don’t know what it is or why it’s so problematic. The World Health Organization calls indoor pollution a silent killer.

People often do not realize that their indoor air quality is poor until they start to experience headaches or dizziness. Many things can make the air inside your home dangerous; you could be exposed to any number of toxins if your house isn’t properly sealed and ventilated.

However, there are ways to improve indoor air quality in your home if you’re concerned about the air quality of your house.

Here are the benefits of improving your home’s indoor air quality, as well as ways to improve the air inside your house.

1) Improves Respiratory Health

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology emphasized that improving ventilation in homes can help reduce upper respiratory symptoms like coughing, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.

Indoor pollution is one of the primary triggers for asthma flares. If you or anyone in your family has respiratory problems, your home’s indoor air quality must be improved.

Experts can help you with your home’s ventilation and ensure that the indoor air quality will be as clean as possible.

2) Reduces Allergens

According to the reports of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, allergens lead to 5.6 million lost school days and 17.5 million lost workdays every year. Many allergens like dust, pet dander, pollen, and mold lead to respiratory health problems. By improving your home’s indoor air quality, you can reduce the number of allergens in your home, which can help reduce symptoms associated with allergies.

3) Protects Against Weather Changes

When your house is adequately ventilated, it will be more energy efficient throughout all seasons. If the air in your home is stagnant, it can make hot or cold weather more uncomfortable. However, if you have a steady supply of fresh air, your house will be more comfortable for everyone inside.

4) Promotes Overall Wellness

Studies show that indoor pollution is linked to many chronic health issues – especially for children and senior citizens.

Indoor pollution can lead to cancer, respiratory problems, allergies, and it has even been linked to low birth weight in children. When your home’s indoor air quality is improved, you will notice that you have more energy and fewer health issues throughout the day.

5) Makes Your House More Comfortable

When your house isn’t adequately ventilated, the air inside can get stuffy. It is especially true for homes that don’t have egress windows or are tightly sealed.

If you notice rooms in your house getting stuffy after a few hours, it means there may be too much humidity and not enough fresh air circulating through your home’s ventilation system. You must improve the indoor air quality in your house to make it more comfortable and safe.

6) Increases the Value of Your Home

Studies show that homeowners who invest in improving their home’s ventilation system get more money when they sell their house. If you choose an energy-efficient and healthier heating and air system, there is a good chance that your home will increase in value faster than the homes of your neighbors.

Final Thoughts

If you want to improve the indoor air quality in your home, there are many things you can do on your own.

However, if you’re not sure how to get started, in that case, it is a good idea to hire an expert who can help improve your house’s ventilation system. They will ensure you that the heating and cooling system is operating efficiently.
