Tips & Tricks For Beginner Home Cooks

Sylvia James January 18, 2022 Renovation Leave a Comment

Cooking is one of the most liberating but simultaneously engaging activities you can do in the comfort of your home.

The art and cooking process has various mental health benefits for your mind and body that ultimately helps you unwind and relax.

If you’re a first-time cook, there are some things you need to consider to ensure kitchen safety and so that you can have a successful first cooking experience. Basic things, such as choosing the right wusthof knife, indirectly contribute to creating a delicious final dish.

Here are some of the tips and tricks you can use to make your first cooking experience a smooth ride:

Strengthen your Basic Skills

The idea of immediately becoming a pro chef once you enter your kitchen is a nice one, but it exists only in mind.

The entire process of learning how to cook does not happen overnight because cooking requires skills that need to be perfected for you to move on to the next level. Every bit of cooking that you do in the future will be based on these skills, making them essential in your learning process.

These basic cooking skills include handling a wusthof knife, knowing your spices, learning proper cutting techniques, etc.

Use the Right Kind of Utensils

As a beginner cook, you may wonder what the ‘right kind of utensils’ means. Different utensils that you use in your cooking process directly affect the food you prepare in these utensils.

Utensils of poor quality will degrade the quality of the food it comes in contact with by contaminating it with harmful metal elements that can be dangerous for the body when ingested.

Learn How to Identify Good-quality Ingredients

The ingredients are the soul of every dish you prepare in your kitchen. Good-quality ingredients are essential to preparing a healthy and nutritious dish.

Experienced cooks always have an eye for recognising ingredients of the best quality. Well, you don’t need years of cooking experience to learn this skill. Every ingredient has certain features that depict its quality. For example, good-quality onions can be identified by simply touching them. When the onion is strong and firm, it is considered of good quality.

Learning these simple skills will help you choose ingredients full of flavour and contribute this flavour to your dish.

For Non-vegetarians, Cooking Meat Is an Art in Itself

As a first time home cook, you will eventually understand that cooking meat is one of the most challenging foods you will ever cook. So, it is essential that you do not avoid learning how to cook meat and instead grasp it at the earliest. In this way, you will learn from the mistakes you make faster.

One of the important things to remember when cooking meat is that you must allow your meat to thaw after taking it out of the freezer before cooking it. Allowing your meat to thaw, followed by washing, helps to get rid of any pathogenic microorganisms that may be present on its surface.

Final Words

Being a first-time home cook will come with its share of successes and failures as you navigate through the process of learning how to cook. Irrespective of the results you get in the kitchen, it is always important to remember to enjoy the learning process.

Cooking is a fun activity, and learning how to cook is just the beginning of a whole lot of excitement and deliciousness that’s coming your way!
