Cost – Although solar panels save you money in the long term, there is the initial cost to consider of having them installed. As well as working out what your budget is for the installation, you may be able to get a grant to have solar panels installed, so it is worth researching this.

Roof – The solar panels will be attached to your roof, so as well as ensuring that the roof is structurally sound and able to support the solar panels safely, you also need to make sure that you have enough space on your roof for them.

Another thing that you need to consider is the position of the roof and which way it is facing. A south facing roof is best as this will get you the most sunlight, and a north facing roof is the worst place to put solar panels.

Permission – When you make changes to the exterior of your property it is always worth checking if you need planning permission to do so. In many cases you don’t, however in some buildings that are listed or in conservation areas this is definitely something that you need to check.
