Starting in 1999 and running for 212 episodes Channel 4’s Grand Designs has continued to be a great success. Kevin McCloud was the first and only presenter. Its inspired many new projects, some that have even been featured on the show and an accompanying magazine. It certainly helped this Building Contractor Gloucester way and many others.
The plan of the show is simple. Some people who have a working budget either build a whole new property or renovate an existing one. These are usually some of the most incredible designs around, otherwise, the show would not be that interesting. For example, underground properties, homes built into cliffsides, properties completely constructed from wood, prefabs and even a small Italian castle have all been the subject of the show.
The real draw is when something goes wrong or if a problem puts the project dangerously near going over budget. That’s when Kevin will start to talk about “compromises” or about how the people involved are having to put more money into the project.
The main show has naturally spanned more spin-offs. All of the UK versions are hosted by McCloud. Grand Designs Revisited is one of the most popular as we find out if the people who built the places are actually happy in them or if they’ve moved on to different pastures or even a new project.
