Running for a good cause

James Barnes October 20, 2023 Games/Sports Leave a Comment

Running is a great way to stay fit. With so many park-runs and half-marathons in the UK, people can raise money for their favourite charity while testing their running stamina and fitness.

Many of the larger gatherings have amazing atmospheres as well as drinks at the finish line, pit stops along the way and of course the all-important medal for participating.

The largest marathon organised in the UK is the London Marathon. If you’re lucky enough to be selected for the ballot, you will run alongside some of the greatest runners in history. As thousands of spectators line the streets to cheer on the runners, the atmosphere at the race is electric. You will see hundreds of people in various costumes at the race, all dressed to raise money for one or more charities.

The Robin Hood Marathon will not disappoint if you’re looking for an organised marathon with a scenic backdrop. The route passes Nottingham Castle and Robin Hood’s statue. The race is very inclusive, with people running in half races alongside those who are doing the full marathon. Find information on Event Medical Cover by visiting Private Paramedic who supply Event Medical Cover services.

Uneven ground and hills may cause problems with the knees and ankles of some runners. Mablethorpe Marathon is flat and is often the first marathon for novice runners. This run will also give you a feeling of the seaside, as it takes you along the beach huts.

The Beachy Head run is not a flat race like Mablethorpe. The track begins with a steep climb from Eastbourne. This is not the race for your best trainers, because by the time you reach this summit you will be caked with mud. Once you reach the summit, the views from the top are stunning. You will also run along the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs for the last six miles.
