Working as a solicitor can be an incredibly rewarding job and there are a number of different areas in the legal field that you can work in after you have trained and specialised. Once you are qualified you will be able to work for companies like Gloucester Solicitors, Dee and Griffin or other solicitor firms that are close to where you live.
A solicitor can work in any of the following fields:
- Private practice
- Commercial practice
- In-house legal advice for a large company or organisation including government bodies
- Crown Prosecution Service
In order to become a qualified solicitor it is important that you have good English skills then take either a Law degree followed by the Legal Practice Course or undertake a non-law degree and then the Common Professional Examination. You can also complete a Chartered Institute of Legal Executives qualification whilst working in the legal profession. The last route is power with those people working in legal administration or as a legal secretary and who do not hold a law degree.
When looking at GCSE and A- Levels many people who want to pursue a career in law will take English, History and where possible Law subjects. Some will also take a GCSE in a language.
When you qualify as a solicitor your learning does not end there. Continuous professional development is important as the law can change and it is important to be able to advise your clients and customers with the most up to date information.
