Protecting Your Garden to Make Your Home Safe

People often don’t realise that protecting your garden can stop burglars from getting tools they could use to break into your house. Taking time to make your garden secure gives a strong first defence against unwanted visitors.

Boundary Security

Keep front hedges and walls low so burglars have nowhere to hide. This also lets neighbours and passers-by see any suspicious activity. Make sure your side gates are always locked, as this stops burglars from accessing your home without being seen. At the sides and back of your garden, keep walls and fences high at over 1.8 metres. Add a trellis on top and plant prickly bushes to make climbing difficult. The combination of height and thorny plants makes a barrier that most burglars won’t want to tackle.

Making Your Garden Safe

Put gravel on your driveway and paths, as the crunching noise warns you when someone is approaching. You could also install security lights outside, as this means no one can come near your house without being seen. Motion-activated lights are especially good because they switch on automatically when someone comes close. Using CCTV in Cheltenham is becoming more common, but even simple measures can make a big difference. A visible burglar alarm system is another effective deterrent that is worth considering.

Shed and Tool Safety

Always lock your shed and make sure it’s firmly anchored down. A secure shed can protect your tools’ valuables and prevent burglars from using them against you. Also, never leave tools lying around the garden, as burglars can use them to break into your home. Even items that seem harmless, like a garden spade or ladder, can become break-in tools in the wrong hands. Cheap shed alarms work well for extra protection, or you can also add protective film to shed windows or install CCTV. If you’re looking for CCTV Cheltenham, there are many local firms that can help.

These simple steps will make your garden and home much safer from break-ins. Remember that each security measure you add makes your property less appealing to potential burglars.
