Our ears have an amazing ability to be able to clean themselves. The wax that is created in the ear (a combination of oils from the skin, dead skin cells and hair) is the ears’ form of cleaning, and for most people it works well and doesn’t cause any problems.
However, some people need some help with ear wax removal from a professional, as they have too much wax, or the wax becomes compacted and then cannot be cleaned out. As you can imagine, this causes issues such as problems with balance and dizziness, hearing difficulty and pain in the ear.
In some cases, it is unavoidable that you have problems with ear wax. Some people have genetic reasons for it, such as the ear just creates too much wax, or the tubes in the ear might be smaller or more unusually shaped making it harder for the wax to make its own way out. However, there are some things that you do which can cause ear wax build up – here are some of them…
Wearing Earplugs or Ear Buds – If you have to sleep with a noisy snorer, you likely wear earplugs, and earbuds are a common way to listen to music nowadays. However, both can push wax into the ear and cause problems.
Trying to Clean the Ear Yourself – If you poke things into the ear yourself, you don’t only run the risk of causing damage to the delicate skin of the ear, but also you can cause wax to compact.
Swimming – In particular if you swim in colder water, you can cause problems in the ear.
