What Type of Flooring is Right For Your Kitchen?

James Barnes October 20, 2025 Interior Design Leave a Comment

Your kitchen floor is probably the floor in your home that is under the most stress on a regular basis! With constant foot traffic, the mess of cooking and food preparation, and also a lot of damp and water, it needs to be able to stand up to all that you can throw at it!

In addition to this you also want your kitchen floor to look good too, so it isn’t about just choosing a tough type of flooring but also one that complements your style and your home.

There are lots of options out there, but in a way, it can feel like there are too many and this can be a little overwhelming! So here are some of the best types of flooring if you want that combination of durability and style for your kitchen floor…

Laminate Flooring

This is a great choice for a kitchen as it is incredibly tough and hardwearing and it also has the additional benefit of being one of the easiest types of flooring to install yourself. If you are on a budget, this is a great option.

Wood Flooring

Traditional hardwood flooring is costly and not really practical for a kitchen. However, if you love the appearance of wood and it is something that your heart is set on, then go for engineered wood flooring like this //www.irwintiles.ie/wooden-flooring/engineered-wood-flooring as it is able to stand up to the higher moisture content and being layered it is generally more durable.

LVT

LVT stands for luxury vinyl tiles, and it is a good looking and very robust type of flooring that comes in a range of different styles, colours and designs, so you are bound to find something suitable. It is also very easy to clean and care for.
